Called Home Quickly

Last week Anne K posted about the Heart Attack the husband of her friend had. Harry died on Friday, after being declared brain dead. It all happened very suddenly, which although difficult for his wife, Dorothy, was also a blessing, in that he did not suffer long or linger in a non-responsive state for an extended period.

Harry had suffered from various health problems over the years and dying quickly after all of that was really a blessing.

The biggest blessing though, was that the day before his heart attack was what his wife considers a wonderful day - a day to remember. They had gone out and done things. They had made happy memories.

As much as Dorothy will miss her husband, she has the comfort of knowing that their last day together was spent in a way she wouldn't change. She'll have no regrets. And the quick ending means that she won't have to replace those happy memories with memories of weeks or months spent watching her husband suffer in an intensive care ward.

Thank you God for the blessings you bestow on us even when we're not aware of them.

And we offer prayers for the repose of Harry's soul, and for Dorothy as she navigates the Holiday season while dealing with her grief.

Continued Prayers for our Neighbor

Please continue to pray for our neighbor, Edna.

It turns out that her recurring infections are due to old pace maker wires that were left in when her pace maker was replaced two years ago. The wires have embedded themselves in her heart muscle. They need to be removed.

The surgery - sometime after Christmas - is going to be risky. It would be risky surgery on a young person - and Edna is 87. However the alternative would be to leave the wires in. If they are left in the infections will continue to recur after she goes off the 6-week cycle of antibiotics. Each time the infection will be worse. It will become antibiotic resistant and it will eventually cause infection of the heart itself. In short, while removing the wires is risky, leaving them in is fatal.

Every day she must go to the hospital for an antibiotic infusion. (This 6-week cycle ends Dec. 20 - though they will likely keep her on antibiotics until the surgery) She is beat down by all this. Please keep her in your prayers - that she find the internal strength to keep going, and that the surgery, when she has it, will be a success.

God is Good

Sonia is waiting for what could be a particularly difficult diagnosis, but that doesn't stop her from seeing the good work that God does. She sent this e-mail to friends, and gave me permission to post it here.

I have been down this path with so many of my family that I wonder if I will have the strength to do it one more time, for myself. I do not know the outcome of the tests I had today but whatever it is I know I am beginning another facet of my life journey, one I would rather have not taken, but one that is scary and frightening, no matter how much faith you have.

After saying that let me share what has happened since I got this news on Tuesday. My God has already begun the miracle process with my family: my sisters have all called and told me how much they love me and are praying for me, my brother, who finds it hard to express his feelings has told me he is here for me in whatever way I need him. WOW God is good. My one sister who lost her daughter to cancer and whose son committed suicide last year, called me tonight and said she went to church for me today and lit a candle before the blessed mother and had a "long" talk with God. I don't think she has been inside a church except for funerals and weddings, in years, so miracles are happening in my family, and if this disease is the reason then I know I will handle whatever lies ahead knowing that my God is my Lord and Saviour, and that he is there walking with me every step of this journey.

I thank you for your prayers and love, keep them coming, they mean a lot to me. To know so many people are praying for me is like standing before the throne of grace and being bathed in the love of God.

Someone said to me today, "Sonia, all I can do is pray for you", and I told her "that is the greatest thing you can do for me". I mean that, the greatest gift right now is the gift of prayer. thank you from the bottom of my heart for your prayers for me.

In His love always, Sonia.

Successful Surgery for Ellen

Keep those prayers coming for Ellen, her breast surgery was successful, and it doesn't look like the cancer spread to the lymph nodes. However the tumor they removed was excessive and it will be a week before the pathology report is in.

Please, also keep in your prayers her son in the Navy in Virginia and her daughter-in-law on a ship bound for Iraq.

Continued Prayers for Ellen

I had the opportunity to talk with Ellen today for a little bit. I had emailed her and told her that many will be praying for her throughout the internet. She called me by phone to extend her heartfelt thanks to all who will intercede for her. Even though she never met any of us, she is overwhelmed that people will pray for her.

Her surgery is scheduled for tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. but she has to go in earlier for identification of lymph nodes.

She just wants tomorrow to be here and be over. Even though it is 21 hours away, it can seem like an eternity waiting for that clock to move. Many people have been calling her and trying to support her. She is so thankful but she is drained and numb. She has to talk with her son by phone tonight who is in the Navy and cannot be here for the surgery. Pray that go well.

So please remember her tomorrow, pray for her peace and strength to come upon her, that the Lord's strenghth and peace flow out of Him to her, pray for all those who will come in contact with her. Pray for her family to love her into healing. I know the Lord will be with her and angels will fill the operating room andprotect her during her surgery that all goes well.

I am on

Thanks for inviting me to this blog...I must admit I am new to this and have just enough in my head to get around on this site...but hopefully will improve.

I ask you today to again remember Ellen in your prayers and thoughts...she will be having an immediate mastectomy on Tuesday. I know she definitely needs the prayers coming for she is devastated by this news. I have never met her, but God does. I pray she find whatever peace she needs to get through this trial.

Hope to be contributing on a regular basis.
