Pray for Ann

Ann, a new person who has been attending our prayer meeting will undergo her first chemotherapy tomorrow for breast cancer. This is the first of eight treatments and she is very anxious and nervous. Pray for God's peace and calmness for her mind, body and spirit, and that she will be able to get through this.

Thank you Lord!

It was a long wait but my friend Sonia has heard that her tumor is not cancerous. God used this difficult time to bring her family together and she is so grateful. Thanks be to God! And thank you all who have prayed for the intentions posted on this blog. May God bless us all.

Prayer Answered

Although, I didn't request prayers and, it may not be life shattering, I did want to share with you an instance of God answering our prayers.

Last evening our dryer stopped drying the clothes. As with all unforeseen things, it did not come at a good time. Too many bills and expenses right now. We had the serviceman come in a few months ago and he changed the heating element. It was supposed to last a good long time.

Since I had no choice, I called them again and was told the final bill would be somewhere in the area of $250.00! Ouch, that hurt!

I lost a lot of sleep last night thinking of the amount we would have to pay.

Finally, I just stopped worrying and asked God to help me. I just put it in His hands.

Today, the nicest serviceman showed up. He told me what needed to be done. I asked him if it was going to be as expensive as the last time. He said "no problem" And, he didn't charge us!

Thank you dear Lord for answering my prayers!

I did thank this nice man by giving him a bag of fresh fruit. He seemed very pleased :-)

Prayer Request for Chris

of Domestic Vocations

...I woke up two days ago with a neck cramp, and I thought nothing of it. I just couldn't comfortably turn my head one direction. I decided that I'd offer up any pain I had for the souls of my grandparents. But as the day went on, it became worse and worse. I took some aspirin and went to bed. Sometime in the middle of the night, I woke up with excruciating pain and slept the rest of the night in the recliner, which lessened it just a tad...

...So...if you could, please send prayers up for me. God's will, always, but I'd really love it if His will includes me not wanting to cry all day because I can't move.

More prayers to stop CA fires

Hello Wonderful Prayer Warriors,
We ask for more prayers to stop CA fires.
We have a homeschooling family there (I'm sure there are more) who had a chance to bless her new home just before escaping the fires. Thank you for your prayers!
Easter
p.s. Thanks Christine for the first post on CA fires

Heavenly Father in heaven,
who art All-Good and All-Mighty,
Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory!
We beg you to have mercy on your children
who lost their homes, those who fled,
those fleeing from the fires
and those who could be affected.
We ask you with faith in our hearts,
in the name of your Most Precious Son, Jesus,
to command the winds to die down
and to blow on the fires that they may cease to spread
and that they may completely dissapear.
We honor and praise you for your goodness
and kindness which are endless.
We stand in faith that You, our Most Loving Father,
do hear our prayer now.
With your Son and Mary
and with the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray,
Amen!

Reconciliation Granted

Last month Denise requested prayers for reconciliation with a person in her life. Today she left the following comment in that post. I'm posting it here so I can be sure that everyone sees it.

Dear friends,
Does God answer prayers, or what?! I am so happy and humbled beyond belief, to report that this prayer was granted. Reconciliation has occured. I can't belive it, but then again how can I doubt that all things are possible with God?!...and this wonderful blessed group of prayer warrior(women) :-)

Let me tell you also, that the intercession of Gwen Coniker is very powerful. (foundress of Catholic Familyland; her cause has been opened). I would not hesitate to recommend her to others. She is well on her way to Sainthood!

God bless you all!
Gratefully,
Denise

How wonderful to see the power of prayer at work. Thank you God.

A Special Prayer Request for Christians in Saudi Arabia

I received the following email yesterday from someone in one of my Catholic e-groups:
Dear Priests and Prayer Warriors,

I am from India and currently working in Saudi Arabia. I am a silent member of this group for the last one and a half years. I used to read all mails and greatly benefited by each one.

As most of you are aware of, Saudi Arabia is one of those countries with no religious freedom. The official religion of the country is Islam. Public practices of all other religions are strictly prohibited. Even private practices were considered as criminal offence in earlier days. By Our Lords Grace, now private practices are allowed.

Before the Mohammedans conquered this part of the Middle East, Saudi Arabia was a Christian nation. Apostle Paul passed through his mission trips and converted the gentiles here to Christianity. When the Mohammedans conquered, they forced the Christians to convert to Islam and it is believed that there was more than 30,000 Christians were beheaded or set to fire for their belief in Christ. Now these martyrs are the chief intercessors for this country.

The country is dedicated to the Patronage on Our Lady of Rosary of Fatima. We all are aware of the conversion of Russia and Poland, when consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On those footsteps, we, Jesus Youth KSA, decided to dedicate 100,000 Rosaries by 2008 Easter, for the conversion of this Country. We request for your prayers for the success of this project. We request your earnest help in mobilizing these much Rosaries for this intension. I know I am asking too much, but will you be able to pray an extra rosary everyday for this special intension and / or get help from others in doing so. Those of you who are willing to take a commitment, please let me know, so that we can make sure that we achieved the target in time.

I am sending this as a very special personal request to all of you as we can’t do it publicly because of media censorship.

Dear Prayer warriors try to be part of this great program as much as you can. If anyone can offer fasting, other prayers for this intension, will be greatly appreciated.

Waiting for your confirmations!

God Bless

Love & Prayers

Thanks & Best Regards

Francis Mathew

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen."

For a long time neighbor of my parents. He had lived on the street where I grew up. We didn't know his name. All we knew was that he was friendly. He died alone.

For Jimmy Schiavo who helped out at my mom's parish. He was out walking and just dropped dead on the sidewalk. His wake was last night.

Prayer for an End to Suffering

Ellen has posted an update on Sister R, who recently had brain surgery.

It is not good news. It looks as if the situation is terminal.

Pray that she will not suffer any longer than necessary and will soon be wrapped in God's loving embrace.

Prayer Request from Jerry Coniker of Catholic Familyland

clark

Please pray for his granddaughter who was involved in a car accident. He may also appreciate an email.

This is a message for prayers for my granddaughter Elizabeth Clark, daughter of Sheri and Joe Clark.

Elizabeth was in a head-on car accident on September 27, which is Gwen's birthday. She is still suffering in the hospital. It is a miracle that she survived. Her ankle was twisted like a corkscrew - the doctors said it would have been better on her if it broke. They reset it after 3 ½ hour surgery and hopefully it proves successful. Also, one of the vertebrae in her neck was hit hard and they hope that they don't have to do surgery.

But the worst part is that because of the laceration in her liver, it is still not fully operating. They are trying to keep her vital signs stable. She is in deep pain.

At age 11, Elizabeth wrote the attached letter to her grandmother Gwen, on the day of her funeral. Elizabeth is a person who thinks of others before herself. She is an honor student, Student Body Vice President, president of the Key Club within the school and varsity tennis junior captain. She was going to the state championship for tennis. She does not drink and is truly considerate to everyone without exception. Over 300 of the student body at St. Joseph High School where she is a junior joined together to pray the Rosary of their own accord and since her accident, attendance for Eucharistic Adoration has increased.

Countless emails are coming to her assuring her of their prayers and thanking her for being who she is. She never knew that she was impacting so many people. Her brother and her cousins dressed up for the Prom but instead of going to the dance, they spent the early evening in the hospital with Elizabeth. Archbishop Dolan has called her three times and personally visited her in the hospital. Also, Cardinal Arinze is praying for her personally.

I am asking you to storm heaven for this 16 year old grandchild. She is offering her suffering for the other patients in the hospital particularly those who do not have a mother to attend to them like my daughter Sheri is attending to Elizabeth. She is also offering her suffering for her family and for our work.

Let us pray for the gift of zeal within the Family Apostolate at all levels. God is calling us to a much deeper commitment to the mission that can save family life throughout the world.

Thank you and may God bless you,

To Jesus, through Mary,
in union with St. Joseph,
Jerry Coniker

Prayer Request - Sherri's Mom

The following is from a lady who used to belong to one of my e-groups:

As some of you know my moms cancer came back this time last year. She had her first diagnosis in Oct. 2000, took 6 chemo treatments and was declared in remission. Then August 2006 her reports came back that the cancer was again active. So she went through 6 more treatments and finished those up in April with another good report in May that all was well. She went back this past August and her blood work was elevated so we knew that something was up again - 4 months later. She had a CT scan done and it showed a lymph node still had cancer there. So they sent her last week for a PET scan which is very thorough. Today she went for the results of the PET and found that she has 3 lymph nodes with cancer and that it is a fast growing cancer. The one is in her abdomen where it was before, the other two are in her chest and left side of her neck. I am trying so hard not to let fear grip my heart! I am SO sick of cancer and of losing loved ones and friends to this nasty disease. She goes next Friday for her first chemo treatment and then will go back a week later for another treatment. Then it will be every 21 days. The last time she was so sick, lost her hair and just so many other little things. Please remember her in your prayers and pass her name on to all you know, your churches, friends and anyone that knows how to pray. I believe in the power of prayer and know that God can take care of this.
Thanks!
Sherri

Two Prayer Requests - Update from Jane

Received the following from Jane today. How appropriate regarding today's Gospel, wouldn't you say? On behalf of Jane and family, thank you dear Lord!
Thank you, Thank you . . . to allll of you who've been praying for Matt.
Praise God, he got a job!!!! YES - you read that right - he is Employed!!
He got a call late last week for a position on graveyard at one of our local canniers -
it's a sanitation position and only pays $8 - was supposed to be part time 5 hrs night.
But when he went for his first shift (Friday night) he found it that it IS full time 11pm-7am
Believe it or not - he's actually fine with that (quite a turn around from a year ago - lol)
This is a little better than our cannery in Stayton, as the one he's at is actually a re-pack
plant that carries a pretty steady base of employees and works year round, so this will
be good for him - both in esteem, experience and a little money in his pocket. He's
going to continue to look for something that has a future, but for now - woohoo - he's not
sitting alone in his room (in front of the computer) 24/7. :)
Thank you, to all of you, for your prayers and support!!!
Love,
Jane (who's still walking about 3' off the ground - bg)

and they are both from friends in a Catholic moms e-group I belong to:

1. From Jane: Matt has yet another interview this morning - - - a warehouse/delivery driver position about 15mi. from home.
Please pray that he Finally gets a chance to prove himself!!!
Thank you!
Jane

2. From Leah: Please pray hard that the doctor will listen to what I have to say and that I will have the courage to say what I need. Last night I was so hopeless and discouraged. I just have no hope that I will have answers. I have been discouraged so many times.
God bless you
Leah

Today's Gospel: One Came Back

Today's Gospel is the very one that inspired Christine to start this blog.

Here are a few homilies for today (listed by blog title, not homily title):

Praise and Bless by Friar Charles

A Friar's Life by Father Tom

Fr. J.C. Maximilian

Never be afraid to thank God for all that he has done for you!

Update on our friend, Rhoda

She does have a recurrence of ovarian cancer, but the doctors at Sloan Kettering are hopeful, since they caught it early. They are also using a protocol that will have her undergoing only one treatment a month (for 6 months), with minimal side effects. She is a sweet lady with strong faith who firmly believes that when God wants to call her home, He will, and in the meantime she will do what she can to fight this.
She is a PhD candidate, and is one of the people in charge of hospice on Long Island. She has the sweetest spirit of anyone I know.

Prayer Request from a Friend - Update

Mrs. Lum told me the prognosis is bad. Please pray for Mrs. DeCosta and her family during this difficult time.

This prayer request was sent to me by a good friend here in Hawaii. I told her I would post it on our prayer blog. Mahalo!:

She’s undergoing tests for leukemia & is a complete wreck as is her family at this time, as you can imagine. I would appreciate it.

Welcome to a New Life

One of our own contributors 'GuitarLady' became a grandma today. Thanks for the prayers while Tara was in labor.
Tara had her little boy tonight at 5:24 p.m. .... 7 pounds 0 ounces, 19-1/2 inches..No name yet...they are deciding between 3 names. It was tough for her... she started in labor on Saturday morning at 2:45 a.m. and went in this morning at 9 \na.m....she had a tough go, they almost had to do Caesaren because she pushed for over 2 hours and the little guy would not come out....but she was adamant about not having one, so they used an instrument and two pushes and he was into our world!!!!Cute a button....sorry no pics yet....they would not allow us to take pictures at the nursery windows...he was not in the room when we got to see Tara. Tara is doing fine, exhausted but she did a great job and I am soooooooooooooo proud of her!!!!! Baby has a slight fever....as does Tara, possibly from too much stress during pushing...so they are giving both of them antibiotics and hopefully that will do the trick.!!!!! He is sooo cute, a lot of dark hair and long toes and fingers...soon as I get, pics will forward on...Please keep them in prayer that the fevers go down by tomorrow.!!!! God is so good.!!!!

Baby on the Way

Please pray for Tara who is now in the hospital in labor expecting her first child. And of course pray for this new life.

Prayer for a Nephew

KC at the Cabbage Patch posted the following prayer request:

My nephew, Michael, has a staph infection in his knee. He had an allergic reaction to the first round of antibiotics. They gave him a different kind but if he doesn't respond to it, he will have to have IV antibiotics. This evening he is in the hospital. They had to lance the wound.

Please pray. This is really scary.

Update on Sister R

Prayers for Speedy Recovery from Brain Surgery

Ellen posted this prayer request on From Across the Net:
Our good friend, Sister R had surgery this morning to relieve pressure on her brain caused by fluid build up.

Sister R is a Franciscan Sister whom we have known for many years. She and her roommate, Sister C, lived in our parish convent and worked in our parish school while our son attended it. A few years ago, they were asked to move to northern NJ when another order joined their order. They were sent to provide support in the transition of the merger. Recently (mid-August) they returned to our area.

Sister R has been feeling poorly the past few weeks and spent a week in the hospital, being discharge on Wednesday with no definitive diagnosis. Yesterday, after a good morning, she awoke from a nap and felt quite poorly. Sister C called me to come and help her get Sister R up the stairs and into her room. By the time I got there, she was in her room, but had no strength to move herself around in bed. A phone call to her nephew who is a doctor, sent her back to the hospital by ambulance.

After a battery of tests, the diagnosis was fluid on the brain which was not apparent just 10 days ago. So this morning she had surgery to drain the fluid. At leas report, she is doing well.

Please remember Sister R in your prayers. She is a very special woman who has become a big part of our extended family.

Prayers for Preparation

Margaret is on her last day of her Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary and she requests prayers.

Thanks, St. Francis, For the Quick Help - On Your Feast Day

I got the following e-mail today:

I was doing a search today, October 4th, looking for a special prayer to say thank you to St Francis for a prayer answered and I came upon your blog.
I probably will not be a regular contributor, but I would like to publically post a great big thank you to St Francis for his intercession. (or you can post this if you would rather)
This morning at mass I asked St Francis to please do what he could to help my future son-in-law to finally pin down a job. He has been searching for quite some time and both he and my daughter are quite frazzled over it. In one and a half hours later I received a phone call from my daughter telling me that he just got hired and begins immediately! Wow! That's what I call fast!
Thank you, St Francis and may we all have the grace to follow Jesus more closely as we see your example!
Cindy

Prayer Request for Gary

Please pray for my friend Jonna's dear husband Gary:

I just wanted to give you an update. Well we found out that the colon cancer had migrated to his liver. The last two weeks have been a blur but Gary started chemo today. He is part of a study which is nice. We have picked ourselves up by our bootstraps and looking at this with a win-win situation. He was a little excited to go to chemo. He said that the cancer has been having a hayday and today it was going to be shocked and say what is going on here. Hehe. He is so awesome and again we are being very positive about this.

Hugs, Jonna

Thanks for the Help, St. Anthony

It's a horrible feeling to realize that the wedding ring you never take off is not on your finger. And you're at the kids school, after having walked there, and when was the last time you saw it anyway?

So, while feeling this horrible feeling, I searched the ground on the way home, all the time praying to St. Anthony to help me out here. "You were doing laundry this morning, maybe it's in the washer". Thanks for the suggestion, St. Anthony. I got home and checked. Not in the washer.

One other thought had come into my head while walking home. "Check your bed." And I did. I pulled back the sheets and there was the ring. In bed. Wow. Thanks for the suggestion, St. Anthony. I'm feeling much better now.
