Prayer Request for Dave

This was shared by Di:

This morning one of my neighbors was found dead in his apartment. He had committed suicide and had been dead for over a week. No one knew him because he didn't socialize with his neighbors. We only know his first name: Dave. What I do know about him is that he had several mental diseases brought on by war. My dad knew him better. Anyway, please pray for Dave's soul.

Thanks

Di

Eternal rest grant unto Dave O Lord and may Your perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace.

Via Leticia:

Pray for Financial Help

Anne left the following prayer request in the comments:
Please pray for me and Catholic store I own which is entrusted to Our Blessed Mother. I need so much help financially - sales are down due to the economy and I rely fully on my income alone to live. The stress is so overwhelming that sometimes its hard to sleep, eat or even think. I still have one and a quarter year left on my lease and contracts, as well as my car engine blew up (which I have a loan on) But I don't want stop trying I'm only $8000.00 short to get through the next year (which is in honor of St Joseph). Please keep the store and myself in your prayers and will trust that St Raphael will help.
God Bless you and keep you - Anne.

Martyrdom awaits North Koreans on Christmas

'Nowhere in the world is such a high price paid for being a Christian'

In a nation where being a Christian can bring the death penalty for the "offender" and his entire family, where tens of thousands of Christians are held in terminal prison camps, and the populace is taught to revere its dictator as a god, there will be martyrdom for Christians on Christmas Day, according to an international ministry

Prayer Request

I have two prayer requests, that are related to being a father.

First, we found out that we are expecting our fourth child due in late July. Please pray for the health of both Mom and baby.

Prayer Request from Seminarian Matthew

of A Catholic Life

Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for my great-grandmother who had a stroke this past Sunday. She is non-catholic, an atheist, and the family has said that they do not want her to receive an emergency Baptism. I do appreciate prayers for her soul.

2. Pray for my maternal grandmother, who was diagnosed with cancer last week and is having surgery tomorrow. Pray for a successful surgery.

3. Pray for me - safe flights and a trip to Mississippi. Also, please pray for my discernment. And, as a seminarian, I ask for you to pray daily for holy, traditional vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Priests and religious need your prayers. If you do not make a daily holy hour now, please consider doing so. Remember the words of Our Blessed Savior: "Could you not watch one hour with me?" (Matthew 24:40).

Prayer Request from Becca

The following is from my friend Becca:
Ladies, I am sharing this prayer request (below) from a friend of mine who I know through NASCAR. His name is Bob and I would appreciate it if you could keep him in your prayers. Feel free to pass along this request as you see fit. Hugs, Becca

Dear Friends,

Today was not a fun day for me. I had an appointment this morning with my eye doctor. And I was looking forward to the appointment to get some answers. I recently had the third surgery on this right eye. It was diagnosed as having developed Diabetic-related (Caused) Neovascular Glaucoma. The Glaucoma shut down all the blood vessels in the eye, which caused the eye to start producing new ones, which also created scar tissue, and caused the retina to detach. I first had laser surgery on the eye, then surgery to put in a tube or stint, to lower the pressure in the eye. The doctor said all of that was successful. But then when the retina detached, he had to go in and fix that. When he got in, he found so much scar tissue that he had to further detach the retina to clear away the scar tissue behind it, and then re-attach the retina. They filled my eye with a silicone oil, and had hoped that within a month some vision would be restored. It hasn’t. Today, he told me that the retina wasn’t getting enough oxygen to heal the way it needs to, for vision to be restored. In addition, today, he found an ulcerated cornea, and we have started treating that with antibiotic drops. The bottom line is that he wasn’t very optimistic about the possibility of me regaining sight in the right eye at this point. He didn’t say it absolutely wouldn’t happen. He said he “hoped” it would happen. “We’ll do the best we can and see what happens,” was his comment.

All afternoon, while part of me has wanted to just lay in the bed and cry, my spirit has been recalling the story of blind Bartimaeus from Mark 10. When he heard Jesus was passing by, he cried out, “Jesus! Son of David! Have Mercy on me!” When Jesus called him to come, the story is so poignant. “Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?"
The blind man answered, "Teacher, I want to see." Jesus said, "Go, you are healed because you believed." At once the man could see, and he followed Jesus on the road.” (Mark 10:51-52 NCV). Jesus simply asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And Bartimaeus answered directly and to the point. “I Want To SEE!” And Jesus healed him. I don’t mean to preach, but I wanted you to know where I am. I have been calling out all afternoon for that same healing. I haven’t done an exhaustive study, but it seems to me that restoration of sight is one of the most prevalent healings in the Bible. So, I am believing for mine! And I ask you to pray in agreement with me to that end. Thank you for your prayers.

Called Home Quickly

Last week Anne K posted about the Heart Attack the husband of her friend had. Harry died on Friday, after being declared brain dead. It all happened very suddenly, which although difficult for his wife, Dorothy, was also a blessing, in that he did not suffer long or linger in a non-responsive state for an extended period.

Harry had suffered from various health problems over the years and dying quickly after all of that was really a blessing.

The biggest blessing though, was that the day before his heart attack was what his wife considers a wonderful day - a day to remember. They had gone out and done things. They had made happy memories.

As much as Dorothy will miss her husband, she has the comfort of knowing that their last day together was spent in a way she wouldn't change. She'll have no regrets. And the quick ending means that she won't have to replace those happy memories with memories of weeks or months spent watching her husband suffer in an intensive care ward.

Thank you God for the blessings you bestow on us even when we're not aware of them.

And we offer prayers for the repose of Harry's soul, and for Dorothy as she navigates the Holiday season while dealing with her grief.

ACT Went Well

On his site, PBXVI has posted a Thank You for people who prayed for him the day of his test.
A Big "Thank You!"...
To all those who prayed for me as I took the ACT test. I won't know what my scores are for a couple of weeks, and then I'll know how I did. I felt like the first half went well, while the second half was quite challenging. However, I'm sure that God's Will will be accomplished no matter what the outcome. I hope I can get into seminary this fall though (*hint*! Hey did you hear that???).
God Bless!

Even if his scores aren't tops (and I'm sure they'll be fine) the prayers were answered, because he feels confident in his accomplishment. And Good Luck with the seminary PBXVI!

Prayer Request from my friend Lois

The following is an email I just received. Her DH's mom has pneumonia and is not doing well:
Hi Everyone,

I am asking you all to include Alfredo's Mom in your prayers. My husband's mom went into the hospital last Thursday, and isn't getting any better, but seems to worsening. She is presently taken to ICU at St. Francis's hospital here in Honolulu. I thank you in advance for your kind prayers for my husband's mother. Finding peace in God is such a blessing, and we need to make sure all will make peace in their hearts in these serious times, and place their trust in Him.
God bless with aloha, Lois

Prayer Request From My Sister

This was emailed to me by my sister today.
I don't know any of these folks, however, please say a prayer for them. It was sent to me by someone I know from Church.
Love,
R

Hello Friends and Family -

This is Erin Hopkins with a very urgent and sincere request for prayers. My friend and one-time college roommate, Stacy Gannon, is battling brain cancer and has been receiving chemo and radiation for nearly one year. Stacey is a mother to two young children and a wife to Joey, they live in Atlanta. She just found out that she is 18 weeks pregnant. She became pregnant during her chemo and radiation and therefore, the baby has been exposed to these chemicals from day one.

She has opted to take a 10 week break from her treatment to allow the baby to reach 28 weeks gestation, when they will deliver the baby via C-section. She has been informed by her baby-related doctors that the chemo is very strong and particularly attacks DNA growth in cells and therefore the baby. They are quite certain that there will be neurological damage to the baby, although the ultrasounds have thus far showed relatively normal growth.

Additionally, her cancer-related doctors have told her that they do not want her to stop her treatment of cancer (even for 10 wks!) because her cancer is so aggressive. They said that if they allowed her to carry the baby to 40 weeks gestation, she would probably not live to deliver the baby. So, Stacey is choosing to give her child a chance and risk her own life. I still cannot believe the situation that this family has been put in, even as I type this.

As a member of Stacey's network of support and prayers, I am asking that you specifically say a prayer to Pope John Paul II. He is in the process of being named a saint and needs a second miracle to "qualify" for sainthood. We have decided to storm heaven with prayers to our former Pope, specifically asking him to stop the growth of Stacey's cancer while she stops her treatment.

Many of you may also be calling to mind the story of St. Gianna Molla, whom JPII canonized in the 1994, whose story is very similar to Stacey's. You can read it here.

Finally, I just want to thank you for having read this far. I appreciate the time you took to read this and say a prayer for Stacey, her unborn child and her family. Stacey herself asks that we be sure to pray for her husband, Joey who is truly heartbroken.

Sincerely,
Erin Hopkins

Brothers and sisters, if you know of anyone who would be willing to pray for Stacey, please pass this e-mail along to them, would you? (John Donlan)

Prayer of Saint Gerard

Almighty and Eternal God, we thank you for the gift of St. Gerard and the example of his life. Because St. Gerard always had complete faith and trust in you, you blessed him with great powers of help and healing. Through him, you showed your loving concern for all those who suffered or were in need. You never failed to hear his prayer on their behalf. Today, through St. Gerard's powerful intercession, you continue to show your love for all those who place their trust in you. And so, Father, full of faith and confidence, and in thanksgiving for all the wonderful things you have done for us, we place ourselves before you today.Through the intercession of St. Gerard, hear our prayers and petitions, and if it is your holy will, grant them.
I suffered a miscarriage last week and ask that you all might say a prayer for me and my family.
God bless,
~Amy Caroline

Please say an extra prayer for Pope Benedict this 1st Sunday of Advent. Thanks! I started a blog that supports priests. One of the suggestions was to adopt a priest and pray for him. I visited your blogs. I would like you all to know that I appreciate all of you! God bless you all abundantly!

THANK YOU AND A JOYFUL FIRST SUNDAY ADVENT TO ALL!

Prayer for Heavenly Repose

"Lord, Remember me When You Come Into Your Kingdom!"
Hey everybody! This advent/Christmas season especially would you keep in your prayers a man named Mr. T. who has just lost his wife Susan T.to a sudden heart attack. Please pray for the Heavenly repose of Susan's soul. They were a wonderful couple at our church (though I didn't know them, but I have heard from those who did) and were around 50 some-ish.
This couple loved traditional music (ex. our traditional choir), and at the funeral we will sing the "Sanctus" which is just about ALWAYS done in English at our church. Mr. T. said his wife would be proud that she would be the one to allow our church to start singing this. I might have the grace to play piano at the funeral.
P. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord.
R. And let perpetual light shine upon her.
P. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
R. Amen.

Prayer Request for Danielle and Family

From my friend Danielle:
Hi dear friends
We found out Larry's store will be closing and there is NO guarantee he will have a job elsewhere with this company. Larry loves this job and with his age and lack of a degree it is always hard and scary as to if and when he'll get another job.
I am working my Avon business (and love it) and I started to work for sister and her husband at their restaurant
in the coatroom. (tips only).
I will be applying for a job with HeadStart so I'll be working 3 jobs soon.
Thanks for letting me plead for prayers.
I Love you all and always think of and pray for you
God Bless You

Continued Prayers for our Neighbor

Please continue to pray for our neighbor, Edna.

It turns out that her recurring infections are due to old pace maker wires that were left in when her pace maker was replaced two years ago. The wires have embedded themselves in her heart muscle. They need to be removed.

The surgery - sometime after Christmas - is going to be risky. It would be risky surgery on a young person - and Edna is 87. However the alternative would be to leave the wires in. If they are left in the infections will continue to recur after she goes off the 6-week cycle of antibiotics. Each time the infection will be worse. It will become antibiotic resistant and it will eventually cause infection of the heart itself. In short, while removing the wires is risky, leaving them in is fatal.

Every day she must go to the hospital for an antibiotic infusion. (This 6-week cycle ends Dec. 20 - though they will likely keep her on antibiotics until the surgery) She is beat down by all this. Please keep her in your prayers - that she find the internal strength to keep going, and that the surgery, when she has it, will be a success.

It takes forever...

I just wanted to ask for prayers that our Social Security gets figured pretty soon...there is a 'snag' as Ford's told the judge that my husband had income last year! He hasn't worked A DAY since 4 June, 2005!
...and our lawyer is simply 'beside himself'...
So please remember us in your prayers as I remember you all in mine...now and forever, my dearest fellow prayer warriors! xo.

Prayer Request from the Catholic Warrior

The Catholic Warrior:

I would ask my readers to take a moment now to pray for a man at my church who has had cancer found in his body. Apparently doctors were removing a cancerous tissue, and when they were doing surgery found more cancerous cells. I don't know how serious it is yet, but this man also has numerous other health problems, and he can't be much older than about 55. He does a lot of good at our local church, and is loved by many.

Prayer Request for Marie

My friend Marie from View From the Pews needs our prayers. The following is a part of an email she sent me:
..."Could you please include me in your daily prayers over the next few months. Last night I was unable to eat dinner and today my right gland is the size of a golf ball. I have M.E. and the heat truly has a detrimental effect on me but God is Good and gives me strength.

It will comfort me to know I am in your prayers.

I wont be writing about it as I tend NOT to focus on myself or my health but instead I focus on God, our Faith and our lovely Blessed Mother. That is my personal choice, but we are all in need of prayer. I hope you will keep me in yours...
So I would ask all of you to pray for her as we do for all the other prayer requests. Thank you!

Prayer Request for June's Mom - Update

My friend Jim told me that she is now in intensive care. Please continue to pray for Cecelia M. Thank you.

Prayers needed for a young transplant recipient

Please pray for my friend SFO Girl's teenage daughter N. She had a kidney transplant 2 years ago and today has been admitted to the hospital for a biopsy, as some routine tests showed a possible problem. At this hospital she gets the Best Care Anywhere, so everyone is grateful for that. I'm sure that N's 3 sisters are very worried too, as well as their mom and dad.

SFO Girl has a lot of medical concerns in the family right now, so prayers for her extended family would also be appreciated.

Another prayer request

From: http://faithfulrebel.blogspot.com/

I humbly request of all of my readers, from whatever country you hail, that you please pray for a very special intention. The specifics of this intention I cannot reveal, but I can assure you that it is a timely matter of no little importance to the Catholic Church in the United States and even universally, the resolution of which could come within the next couple of weeks.

I have begun a novena for this intention today. Readers who are able to do so, I strongly encourage to do the same. However, any prayer, no matter how "small" will be greatly appreciated. May God bless you all.

Chinese priest's three years jail for consecrating church

A Chinese priest has been sentenced for three years for organising the celebrations of the consecration of a church.

Fr Wang Zhong, who has been in isolation since July, was arrested because of his membership of the illegal underground church, in opposition to the state-sanctioned China Catholic Patriotic Association (CCAP).

Prayers for Jill - Update from Barbara

For all you warriors out there, I wanted to give you an update.

Jill finished her chemo on Saturday night. I'm told she had a bit of a fever and a fast heartbeat. But other than that, she tolerated the chemo well. At least no nausea. The doctors said the fatigue will hit around day seven.

She has been on a clear liquid diet for a week and the doctor gave the go ahead for an all liquid diet. Poor thing was looking forward to hospital jello. Jill is an itty bitty thing, so I can't imagine what two weeks without food has done. She's still in ICU but will move to a regular room as soon as her heartbeat settles. Hopefully home is not too far off. I know it will be like paradise!

Thank you, again, for your prayers. They are wonderfully powerful and she is going to need them. This shall not be a short road.

Please keep Barbara's cousin Jill in your prayers
I hate to ask for prayers too often, but they are really needed here and now. My first cousin, and Faith's Godmother (the intended bride from this post), was just diagnosed with an abdominal sarcoma. Without getting into too many details, I'll tell you it's going to be a tough row to hoe. Please pray that the doctors do not find any metastatic spots and that God will guide the surgeon's hands when he removes the tumor. Her name is Jill.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.

Prayer Request for Susan's DH - UPDATE

The following is an update on Bob's condition:
My Friends,
Below is a note that was posted in a prayer warrior group that our Susan and i are in..The news about Bob isn't good,But God can still turn this around as long as there is breath in Bob's body there is hope for a miracle..

I just wanted to share that I spoke with Susan this afternoon and it is not good news about Bob. They have taken him off the respirator and they now say he had suffered approximately 3 strokes. There is damage to his brain stem. Susan just found out this devastating news yesterday. They say it is just a matter of time for Bob. They said it could be a few days or a few weeks.... hard to say. I have to honestly say each time I call Susan I am not sure what to say. I dreaded calling because if there had been any good news she would have called Lynn or me by now and exclaimed the good news. But I wasn't expecting this news. She broke down several times on the phone and cried when we were talking. It is just so sad. She's still got some spunk in her though and warned his doctors that she will not stand by and let him be starved to death or "assisted" in dying. (He has to be fed with a feeding tube). She will make sure he goes when the Lord takes him and not sooner. She is still praying for a miracle if it is God's will. She says that Michael is understanding what is going on and understands that his Daddy may be going to be with Jesus soon.

When i learn more i will let you know..

Love,
Trish

I received the following email. Please pray for my friend Susan's husband:

Prayer Request for Susan B.

Susan B. was admitted to the hospital after she was unable to keep any food down and was dehydrated. She spent two weeks in the hospital to determine the problem and was seen by many doctors and had numerous tests constantly, getting very little sleep. She was finally diagnosed with an obstruction in her intestine along with an intestinal infection and placed on antibiotics. She has been released from the hospital but is still very weak. Please pray for her complete recovery and a quick return to good health.

Prayer for a Needy Catholic Family

Please pray for a Catholic family who, due to a grave injustice, will be forced to declare bankruptcy unless a miracle happens soon.

A Fervent Prayer for the Sick and Suffering

Shared by Sue
O Almighty Lord, Jesus Christ, Son of God and Savior. The same Lord that so loves His children as to lay His life down for them. The same Lord that rose from the dead on the third day, and Ascended into Heaven. The same Lord that spoke the word and the Centurion’s Servant was immediately healed. The same Lord that restored sight to the blind; cleansed lepers, cured the halt and lame. The same Lord that with a word rebuked the seas and they were calm. The same Lord that raised Lazarus from the dead.

The same Lord that has been given all power both in Heaven and on earth, do Thou, the same Lord visit and heal Thy servant, (__name__), from the afflictions that they are now suffering.

Strengthen our faith like that of the Roman Centurion, so that we may ask for this healing with the same faith, trust, and hope that Thy servant, (__name__) will be healed in the same manner that the Centurion’s servant was restored to health.

O Holy physician of our souls and bodies, hear this fervent prayer for Thy servant (__name__), and grant this request as we hold this, Thy servant up before Thy glorious Throne. We ask this in the victorious and Holy Name of our Lord, God, and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Praise Report - Prayer Request for a Young Mom Being Pressured to Abort her Unborn Baby.

Update from my friend:
Esther, please be inform that God has answered our prayers! An innocent child has been saved by the grace of God.

A friend in Hawaii shared with me that the other day a young expecting mom went for an abortion but at the last minute changed her mind. Praise God. However, now the family is pressuring her to abort her unborn child.
Esther, the other day I told you of a girl who at the last minute refused to have an abortion even though her mother insisted. Well, I just found out that this girl was told by her boyfriends' father, who after calculating the cost of supporting his son, the girl and unborn child, has decided to joined with her mother in pressuring the her to have an abortion.

As you are well aware, the enemy is fighting with all his might to win this war between good and evil. He wants to kill this innocent life. And by so doing, convince all who are on his side that it is justified. The enemy will not give up, until the end of the world, to get his revenge by distroying God's children to get his "justice" for being condemned to death for eternity.

The enemy has already won the mother and boyfriends' father to his side of evil. Now more then ever, we need the prayers of many. May God bless the innocent

Pray for Susan T.

Hi Ladies.
This email is from Susan who will lose her home in 2 months. Because I once lost a home, her problem is so real to me. I always pray for her and one day decided to email her...

Hello Easter,
How lovely of you to email. I am doing OK so far. My landlord died and now his sons own my house. I rent, and they are selling my house. It seems there may be a buyer and under my lease I only have two months to find a place. I live in a very small town, and places that allow pets are hard to come by. Thank you for the encouragement. You have five children! How blessed you are. I have three grown children and three more in heaven waiting for me. Thank you so much for the encouragement. I am just trying to do what God wants me to and let Him handle the rest. I teach second grade CCD. When all this happened I thought about giving it up to concentrate on finding a place to stay and packing. Then I thought why stop doing what God wants me to do just so I can deal with a problem Satan is taking much joy in. So I am still teaching . God bless you! I will be praying for you as well!
Love,
Susan

Your prayers have certainly helped in her faith journey as she now is more positive about her situation. Thank you! Please continue to pray for her.

Prayer for Father Richard

KC has a post up with a prayer request for her uncle. Please add your prayers to hers.

Prayer Request for Sister M

Received from a family friend:

Dear Esther,

Thank you.
I am well in general, but actually, do need prayers.
I am going to have a stent implanted in a coronary artery soon, date to be decided. There are calcium deposits causing narrowing of the artery, and impaired blood circulation. It is best to have it done before it gets worse.
Hospitalization will be 4 days. The procedure is simple, but risky, too!
I know I can count on your prayers.

Love,
Sister M.

Prayer and The Golden Compass

A film called "The Golden Compass" opens December 7. It is based on the first book of a trilogy titled His Dark Materials. The author of this children's fantasy is Philip Pullman, a noted English atheist. It is his objective to bash Christianity and promote atheism. To kids. "The Golden Compass" is a film version of the book by that name, and it is being toned down so that Catholics, as well as Protestants, are not enraged.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father
whose goodness, mercy, love and greatness can never be outdone,
we glorify YOU, we praise YOU with much joy from the depths of our hearts!
Your Precious Son, Jesus, claimed victory for us once and for all;
He is victorious and reigns with you at your right hand.
We praise the Son for the blood he shed
That protects us from all that is evil!
Holy Spirit, by your power that moves us to goodness and love,
bring to our lips, mind and body the will to protect what belongs to God’s children
and to always act upon that will, the will of the Father.
Bring all of us Christians to unity and proclaim what is rightfully ours.
We claim God’s protection now and always!
We claim God’s greatness, love, mercy, and peace
for all the children of the world, for the Holy Trinity’s glory and honor.
We pray with our Mother, Mary,
Amen!

Prayer Request for Tom's Little Boy

He fractured his arm on Sunday:

Healing Broken Bones and Hearts

Today's video is dedicated to my nine year old son, who tumbled down the stairs on Sunday and broke his arm. It was a pretty bad compound fracture, but he is a brave little guy. I love you son.

As a parent, there is nothing more horrifying than seeing your innocent child laying injured, crying out in pain and fear. Thanks be to God that my son's injury was not more serious. The scare made me reflect on less fortunate families and children. Today, please join me in prayer for those who have lost a child or face the sad reality of a loved one who is terminally ill. Lord, may you ease their pain and open your gentle loving arms to innocent souls that seek your eternal comfort.

Please pray

As I posted in my own blog, I am needing prayers for finding a new home for my one cocker spaniel Diesel. I'm looking for a family with no small kids (or at least teenage or older kids) or a retiried couple, within the country (since it's so costly to ship him elsewhere), who would like a laid back (but happy to be active and take a jog with ya) male dog.

So pray the Lord (and St Francis) help us find a new forever home for our dog Diesel.

God bless,

Prayer Request for Roland's Mom

The other day a friend of Easter and mine emailed that her m-i-l was missing. Later that night they finally located her in a hospital. She had fallen and somehow didn't have contact info for the family. The following email is another prayer request from her family:
Please continue to pray for Roland's mothers. She was admitted to the hospital and was diagnosed with a heart attack. We're waiting for the cardiologist to see her and determine the proper treatment for her. Thanks again for your prayers and support.

Prayer Request for Susan

My friend Sue shared the following with her prayer warriors:
Please pray for me. I am in danger of losing my home. I have no where else to go and no family to help. If I lose my home I will have to get rid of my animals. One of my dogs was abused and I am the only one she trusts. I will more than likely have to put her to sleep.

My heart is breaking and my soul is in distress. Please remember me.
Thank you so very much. God bless you.
Susan.

Sue encourages us to send folks requesting prayers a note of encouragement.

Prayer for Priests

O Jesus, our great High Priest,
Hear my humble prayers on behalf of your priest, Father Francis Mary.
Give him a deep faith

a bright and firm hope
and a burning love
which will ever increase
in the course of his priestly life.

In his loneliness, comfort him
In his sorrows, strengthen him
In his frustrations, point out to him

that it is through suffering that the soul is purified,
and show him that he is needed by the Church,
he is needed by souls,
he is needed for the work of redemption.

O loving Mother Mary, Mother of Priests,

take to your heart your son who is close to you
because of his priestly ordination,
and because of the power which he has received
to carry on the work of Christ
in a world which needs him so much.

Be his comfort, be his joy, be his strength,

and especially help him
to live and to defend the ideals of consecrated celibacy. Amen.

John Joseph, Cardinal Carberry (+1998)
Archbishop of St. Louis 1968-1979

Please pray and offer sacrifice for Fr. Francis Mary and all our priests who are constantly under the attack of the devil.

Thank you God!

Please understand ladies but I have a hard time asking for prayers for myself. I do want to thank the Lord for watching over me today.

Today I had same day surgery. And, thank God everything went well. I should be able to get back to my normal routine and activities (something which I haven't been able to do in over a year during certain times of the month).

I am just sorry I had to miss Mass everyday except Monday but especially today. I am not supposed to drive tomorrow but I don't want to miss Mass again.

Elderly Neighbor in Hospital Again

Our neighbor is in the hospital again, she fell in the bathroom yesterday and cracked her head open on the tub. When she was admitted to the hospital, they also said she had pneumonia.

Please pray for her, and also for her son, who does a wonderful job taking care of her. This has been a hard week for him, the day before his mother fell he had to have his dog put down. The dog would have been 16 in February, and had been failing for awhile.

Bill Starts His New Job This Week

Pray for God's peace and calmness for her mind, body and spirit, and that she will be able to get through this.

Thank you Lord!

It was a long wait but my friend Sonia has heard that her tumor is not cancerous. God used this difficult time to bring her family together and she is so grateful. Thanks be to God! And thank you all who have prayed for the intentions posted on this blog. May God bless us all.

Prayer Answered

Although, I didn't request prayers and, it may not be life shattering, I did want to share with you an instance of God answering our prayers.

Last evening our dryer stopped drying the clothes. As with all unforeseen things, it did not come at a good time. Too many bills and expenses right now. We had the serviceman come in a few months ago and he changed the heating element. It was supposed to last a good long time.

Since I had no choice, I called them again and was told the final bill would be somewhere in the area of $250.00! Ouch, that hurt!

I lost a lot of sleep last night thinking of the amount we would have to pay.

Finally, I just stopped worrying and asked God to help me. I just put it in His hands.

Today, the nicest serviceman showed up. He told me what needed to be done. I asked him if it was going to be as expensive as the last time. He said "no problem" And, he didn't charge us!

Thank you dear Lord for answering my prayers!

I did thank this nice man by giving him a bag of fresh fruit. He seemed very pleased :-)

Prayer Request for Chris

of Domestic Vocations

...I woke up two days ago with a neck cramp, and I thought nothing of it. I just couldn't comfortably turn my head one direction. I decided that I'd offer up any pain I had for the souls of my grandparents. But as the day went on, it became worse and worse. I took some aspirin and went to bed. Sometime in the middle of the night, I woke up with excruciating pain and slept the rest of the night in the recliner, which lessened it just a tad...

...So...if you could, please send prayers up for me. God's will, always, but I'd really love it if His will includes me not wanting to cry all day because I can't move.

More prayers to stop CA fires

Hello Wonderful Prayer Warriors,
We ask for more prayers to stop CA fires.
We have a homeschooling family there (I'm sure there are more) who had a chance to bless her new home just before escaping the fires. Thank you for your prayers!
Easter
p.s. Thanks Christine for the first post on CA fires

Heavenly Father in heaven,
who art All-Good and All-Mighty,
Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory!
We beg you to have mercy on your children
who lost their homes, those who fled,
those fleeing from the fires
and those who could be affected.
We ask you with faith in our hearts,
in the name of your Most Precious Son, Jesus,
to command the winds to die down
and to blow on the fires that they may cease to spread
and that they may completely dissapear.
We honor and praise you for your goodness
and kindness which are endless.
We stand in faith that You, our Most Loving Father,
do hear our prayer now.
With your Son and Mary
and with the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray,
Amen!

Reconciliation Granted

Last month Denise requested prayers for reconciliation with a person in her life. Today she left the following comment in that post. I'm posting it here so I can be sure that everyone sees it.

Dear friends,
Does God answer prayers, or what?! I am so happy and humbled beyond belief, to report that this prayer was granted. Reconciliation has occured. I can't belive it, but then again how can I doubt that all things are possible with God?!...and this wonderful blessed group of prayer warrior(women) :-)

Let me tell you also, that the intercession of Gwen Coniker is very powerful. (foundress of Catholic Familyland; her cause has been opened). I would not hesitate to recommend her to others. She is well on her way to Sainthood!

God bless you all!
Gratefully,
Denise

How wonderful to see the power of prayer at work. Thank you God.

A Special Prayer Request for Christians in Saudi Arabia

I received the following email yesterday from someone in one of my Catholic e-groups:
Dear Priests and Prayer Warriors,

I am from India and currently working in Saudi Arabia. I am a silent member of this group for the last one and a half years. I used to read all mails and greatly benefited by each one.

As most of you are aware of, Saudi Arabia is one of those countries with no religious freedom. The official religion of the country is Islam. Public practices of all other religions are strictly prohibited. Even private practices were considered as criminal offence in earlier days. By Our Lords Grace, now private practices are allowed.

Before the Mohammedans conquered this part of the Middle East, Saudi Arabia was a Christian nation. Apostle Paul passed through his mission trips and converted the gentiles here to Christianity. When the Mohammedans conquered, they forced the Christians to convert to Islam and it is believed that there was more than 30,000 Christians were beheaded or set to fire for their belief in Christ. Now these martyrs are the chief intercessors for this country.

The country is dedicated to the Patronage on Our Lady of Rosary of Fatima. We all are aware of the conversion of Russia and Poland, when consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. On those footsteps, we, Jesus Youth KSA, decided to dedicate 100,000 Rosaries by 2008 Easter, for the conversion of this Country. We request for your prayers for the success of this project. We request your earnest help in mobilizing these much Rosaries for this intension. I know I am asking too much, but will you be able to pray an extra rosary everyday for this special intension and / or get help from others in doing so. Those of you who are willing to take a commitment, please let me know, so that we can make sure that we achieved the target in time.

I am sending this as a very special personal request to all of you as we can’t do it publicly because of media censorship.

Dear Prayer warriors try to be part of this great program as much as you can. If anyone can offer fasting, other prayers for this intension, will be greatly appreciated.

Waiting for your confirmations!

God Bless

Love & Prayers

Thanks & Best Regards

Francis Mathew

Prayer for an End to Suffering

Ellen has posted an update on Sister R, who recently had brain surgery.

It is not good news. It looks as if the situation is terminal.

Pray that she will not suffer any longer than necessary and will soon be wrapped in God's loving embrace.

Prayer Request from Jerry Coniker of Catholic Familyland

clark

Please pray for his granddaughter who was involved in a car accident. He may also appreciate an email.

This is a message for prayers for my granddaughter Elizabeth Clark, daughter of Sheri and Joe Clark.

Elizabeth was in a head-on car accident on September 27, which is Gwen's birthday. She is still suffering in the hospital. It is a miracle that she survived. Her ankle was twisted like a corkscrew - the doctors said it would have been better on her if it broke. They reset it after 3 ½ hour surgery and hopefully it proves successful. Also, one of the vertebrae in her neck was hit hard and they hope that they don't have to do surgery.

But the worst part is that because of the laceration in her liver, it is still not fully operating. They are trying to keep her vital signs stable. She is in deep pain.

At age 11, Elizabeth wrote the attached letter to her grandmother Gwen, on the day of her funeral. Elizabeth is a person who thinks of others before herself. She is an honor student, Student Body Vice President, president of the Key Club within the school and varsity tennis junior captain. She was going to the state championship for tennis. She does not drink and is truly considerate to everyone without exception. Over 300 of the student body at St. Joseph High School where she is a junior joined together to pray the Rosary of their own accord and since her accident, attendance for Eucharistic Adoration has increased.

Countless emails are coming to her assuring her of their prayers and thanking her for being who she is. She never knew that she was impacting so many people. Her brother and her cousins dressed up for the Prom but instead of going to the dance, they spent the early evening in the hospital with Elizabeth. Archbishop Dolan has called her three times and personally visited her in the hospital. Also, Cardinal Arinze is praying for her personally.

I am asking you to storm heaven for this 16 year old grandchild. She is offering her suffering for the other patients in the hospital particularly those who do not have a mother to attend to them like my daughter Sheri is attending to Elizabeth. She is also offering her suffering for her family and for our work.

Let us pray for the gift of zeal within the Family Apostolate at all levels. God is calling us to a much deeper commitment to the mission that can save family life throughout the world.

Thank you and may God bless you,

To Jesus, through Mary,
in union with St. Joseph,

I hope I got this blog correct. I am a novice.
Rosemary

Prayer Request - Sherri's Mom

The following is from a lady who used to belong to one of my e-groups:

As some of you know my moms cancer came back this time last year. She had her first diagnosis in Oct. 2000, took 6 chemo treatments and was declared in remission. Then August 2006 her reports came back that the cancer was again active. So she went through 6 more treatments and finished those up in April with another good report in May that all was well. She went back this past August and her blood work was elevated so we knew that something was up again - 4 months later. She had a CT scan done and it showed a lymph node still had cancer there. So they sent her last week for a PET scan which is very thorough. Today she went for the results of the PET and found that she has 3 lymph nodes with cancer and that it is a fast growing cancer. The one is in her abdomen where it was before, the other two are in her chest and left side of her neck. I am trying so hard not to let fear grip my heart! I am SO sick of cancer and of losing loved ones and friends to this nasty disease. She goes next Friday for her first chemo treatment and then will go back a week later for another treatment. Then it will be every 21 days. The last time she was so sick, lost her hair and just so many other little things. Please remember her in your prayers and pass her name on to all you know, your churches, friends and anyone that knows how to pray. I believe in the power of prayer and know that God can take care of this.
Thanks!

Two Prayer Requests - Update from Jane

Received the following from Jane today. How appropriate regarding today's Gospel, wouldn't you say? On behalf of Jane and family, thank you dear Lord!
Thank you, Thank you . . . to allll of you who've been praying for Matt.
Praise God, he got a job!!!! YES - you read that right - he is Employed!!
He got a call late last week for a position on graveyard at one of our local canniers -
it's a sanitation position and only pays $8 - was supposed to be part time 5 hrs night.
But when he went for his first shift (Friday night) he found it that it IS full time 11pm-7am
Believe it or not - he's actually fine with that (quite a turn around from a year ago - lol)
This is a little better than our cannery in Stayton, as the one he's at is actually a re-pack
plant that carries a pretty steady base of employees and works year round, so this will
be good for him - both in esteem, experience and a little money in his pocket. He's
going to continue to look for something that has a future, but for now - woohoo - he's not
sitting alone in his room (in front of the computer) 24/7. :)
Thank you, to all of you, for your prayers and support!!!
Love,
Jane (who's still walking about 3' off the ground - bg)

and they are both from friends in a Catholic moms e-group I belong to:

1. From Jane: Matt has yet another interview this morning - - - a warehouse/delivery driver position about 15mi. from home.
Please pray that he Finally gets a chance to prove himself!!!
Thank you!
Jane

2. From Leah: Please pray hard that the doctor will listen to what I have to say and that I will have the courage to say what I need. Last night I was so hopeless and discouraged. I just have no hope that I will have answers. I have been discouraged so many times.
God bless you
Leah

Today's Gospel: One Came Back

Today's Gospel is the very one that inspired Christine to start this blog.

Here are a few homilies for today (listed by blog title, not homily title):

Praise and Bless by Friar Charles

A Friar's Life by Father Tom

Fr. J.C. Maximilian

Never be afraid to thank God for all that he has done for you!

Update on our friend, Rhoda

She does have a recurrence of ovarian cancer, but the doctors at Sloan Kettering are hopeful, since they caught it early. They are also using a protocol that will have her undergoing only one treatment a month (for 6 months), with minimal side effects. She is a sweet lady with strong faith who firmly believes that when God wants to call her home, He will, and in the meantime she will do what she can to fight this.
She is a PhD candidate, and is one of the people in charge of hospice on Long Island. She has the sweetest spirit of anyone I know.

Prayer Request from a Friend - Update

Mrs. Lum told me the prognosis is bad. Please pray for Mrs. DeCosta and her family during this difficult time.

This prayer request was sent to me by a good friend here in Hawaii. I told her I would post it on our prayer blog. Mahalo!:

Esther, if you’re going to Mass today or this week, could I put in my good friend’s mom in-law, Doris DeCosta in your prayers??

She’s undergoing tests for leukemia & is a complete wreck as is her family at this time, as you can imagine. I would appreciate it.

Welcome to a New Life

One of our own contributors 'GuitarLady' became a grandma today. Thanks for the prayers while Tara was in labor.
Tara had her little boy tonight at 5:24 p.m. .... 7 pounds 0 ounces, 19-1/2 inches..No name yet...they are deciding between 3 names. It was tough for her... she started in labor on Saturday morning at 2:45 a.m. and went in this morning at 9 \na.m....she had a tough go, they almost had to do Caesaren because she pushed for over 2 hours and the little guy would not come out....but she was adamant about not having one, so they used an instrument and two pushes and he was into our world!!!!Cute a button....sorry no pics yet....they would not allow us to take pictures at the nursery windows...he was not in the room when we got to see Tara. Tara is doing fine, exhausted but she did a great job and I am soooooooooooooo proud of her!!!!! Baby has a slight fever....as does Tara, possibly from too much stress during pushing...so they are giving both of them antibiotics and hopefully that will do the trick.!!!!! He is sooo cute, a lot of dark hair and long toes and fingers...soon as I get, pics will forward on...Please keep them in prayer that the fevers go down by tomorrow.!!!! God is so good.!!!!

Baby on the Way

Please pray for Tara who is now in the hospital in labor expecting her first child. And of course pray for this new life.

Prayer for a Nephew

KC at the Cabbage Patch posted the following prayer request:

My nephew, Michael, has a staph infection in his knee. He had an allergic reaction to the first round of antibiotics. They gave him a different kind but if he doesn't respond to it, he will have to have IV antibiotics. This evening he is in the hospital. They had to lance the wound.

Please pray. This is really scary.

Prayers for Speedy Recovery from Brain Surgery

Ellen posted this prayer request on From Across the Net:
Our good friend, Sister R had surgery this morning to relieve pressure on her brain caused by fluid build up.

Sister R is a Franciscan Sister whom we have known for many years. She and her roommate, Sister C, lived in our parish convent and worked in our parish school while our son attended it. A few years ago, they were asked to move to northern NJ when another order joined their order. They were sent to provide support in the transition of the merger. Recently (mid-August) they returned to our area.

Sister R has been feeling poorly the past few weeks and spent a week in the hospital, being discharge on Wednesday with no definitive diagnosis. Yesterday, after a good morning, she awoke from a nap and felt quite poorly. Sister C called me to come and help her get Sister R up the stairs and into her room. By the time I got there, she was in her room, but had no strength to move herself around in bed. A phone call to her nephew who is a doctor, sent her back to the hospital by ambulance.

After a battery of tests, the diagnosis was fluid on the brain which was not apparent just 10 days ago. So this morning she had surgery to drain the fluid. At leas report, she is doing well.

Please remember Sister R in your prayers. She is a very special woman who has become a big part of our extended family.

Prayers for Preparation

Margaret is on her last day of her Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Through Mary and she requests prayers.

Thanks, St. Francis, For the Quick Help - On Your Feast Day

I got the following e-mail today:

I was doing a search today, October 4th, looking for a special prayer to say thank you to St Francis for a prayer answered and I came upon your blog.
I probably will not be a regular contributor, but I would like to publically post a great big thank you to St Francis for his intercession. (or you can post this if you would rather)
This morning at mass I asked St Francis to please do what he could to help my future son-in-law to finally pin down a job. He has been searching for quite some time and both he and my daughter are quite frazzled over it. In one and a half hours later I received a phone call from my daughter telling me that he just got hired and begins immediately! Wow! That's what I call fast!
Thank you, St Francis and may we all have the grace to follow Jesus more closely as we see your example!
Cindy

Prayer Request for Gary

Please pray for my friend Jonna's dear husband Gary:

I just wanted to give you an update. Well we found out that the colon cancer had migrated to his liver. The last two weeks have been a blur but Gary started chemo today. He is part of a study which is nice. We have picked ourselves up by our bootstraps and looking at this with a win-win situation. He was a little excited to go to chemo. He said that the cancer has been having a hayday and today it was going to be shocked and say what is going on here. Hehe. He is so awesome and again we are being very positive about this.

Hugs, Jonna

Pray for a priest

Msgr. William Mattimore, former pastor at St. George's Waimanalo, died Saturday (Boston area-where he is originally from) after a long battle with cancer. He was a great priest and pastor, former AF Chaplain, and a great man of God. May his soul rest in peace.

Thanks for the Help, St. Anthony

It's a horrible feeling to realize that the wedding ring you never take off is not on your finger. And you're at the kids school, after having walked there, and when was the last time you saw it anyway?

So, while feeling this horrible feeling, I searched the ground on the way home, all the time praying to St. Anthony to help me out here. "You were doing laundry this morning, maybe it's in the washer". Thanks for the suggestion, St. Anthony. I got home and checked. Not in the washer.

One other thought had come into my head while walking home. "Check your bed." And I did. I pulled back the sheets and there was the ring. In bed. Wow. Thanks for the suggestion, St. Anthony. I'm feeling much better now.

Prayer for Reconciliation

Denise has a special prayer request:

Hi prayer friends,

I have a special prayer intention for reconciliation with a person I had a terrible misunderstanding with resulting in a falling out well over a year ago. I have tried several times to reconcile to no avail ): I have felt very moved (by heaven?) lately to try to make way for forgiveness and peace and have made contact with the person, whom unfortunately doesn't seem willing to respond to any peace effort. And so I submit my heartfelt request that this important prayer is granted, and my plea to others to pray for reconciliation and peace between I and this special person, whom I would like very much to call "friend" again. I truly pray they can be receptive to some conciliatory motions and we will soon find ourselves at peace.

Thank you all so much! Thank you for this wonderful blog.
God bless,
Denise

Prayers for a Grandmother

Jennifer sent an e-mail requesting prayers for her grandmother:

My grandmother had lung cancer sometime around the year 2000. She came out of it against all odds and has been fine until the last few months when her symptoms returned. She is exhausted, nauseated and dizzy all the time. Her chest has been hurting and she's had a difficult time breathing. She has been too scared to go to the doctor, but my mom made an appointment for her and is going to "drag" her in if she has to.

I am really worried because my grandmother pretty much holds our family together. My uncle (who is in his 50's and has liver disease) even LIVES with her. She takes care of everything and everyone and we are all so incredibly scared we might lose her. I just want her to be taken care of the way she has always taken care of us...

While I was talking to her on the phone tonight, she told me that she's scared and feeling so bad all the time. So, I told her about you guys and about the amazing results our prayers have made together over the years. I told her I'd go straight to my computer and post a special request just for her--that her body be healed and that her mind be at ease. She needs all the prayers she can get. Her name is Nancy Peake and she sees the oncologist this coming Monday. Thank you all so very much as always!

Rich Zimmerman is having surgery on October 25 to remove a kidney which appears to have some sort of growth on it. Please pray for an uneventful surgery and speedy recovery.

A homeschool family if eight needs help!

On Saturday afternoon September 22 some cowardly, ignorant vandals waited until a mother and her six children left the house to go grocery shopping
The oldest child is aged 12 and the youngest 2 years.

They then broke in and showed their character by working to destroy the interior of the house.

They spray painted cupboards and appliances with obscenities.

Using a pickaxe they ruined the vinyl floors.

They dumped paint from the upstairs children’s bedroom that was being repainted and streamed it throughout the house.

They used a pellet gun to shoot out most of the windows from the inside.

They smashed the commodes and sinks in the bathrooms.

They used a pick to damage the refrigerators and the washers and dryers.

Every major appliance in the house was damaged. They even threw the heavy food mixer from the kitchen down the basement steps.

They not only pulled out all drawers and dumped them, but then stomped on them for their total destruction.

They broke every ceiling fan off, broke every mirror and overturned every piece of furniture after slashing and spray painting most of the pieces.

Of course they stole the small valuables of the family, but they must have been very disappointed with the utter lack of luxury items to steal.

Please call the Police Dept of the City of New Franklin Ohio if you have information regarding this vandalism.

These individuals must be caught by the police. Their actions show that this is not a childish act, but the sign of seriously disturbed individuals with dangerous anti-social tendencies. Calls to the police may be made anonymously. A donor has posted a $500 reward to the person who supplies the information that leads to the arrest of these perpetrators. The number of the New Franklin Police is 330.882.3281.

See the damage to their home on YouTube at the above link.

Also via my e-mail - a plea for help for this family and a little more about them:

Please tell your friends or ANYONE you want to about the following tragic situation. All of this information can be verified at the following website: http://www.Newfranklinvandals.com. There is a homeschool family of 6 children who are very private people and live far off the road. They have been the victims of what the police have said is the “worst vandalism of a residence” they have ever seen. Paint was poured everywhere. Obscenities were painted on the walls. Every single thing was either stolen or destroyed from their house. The police suspect 3-4 vandals to do so much damage. Every window was shot out. The fireplace was partially ripped from the wall. Their homeschool books were thrown and painted upon, beds were turned upside down and destroyed or painted, toys were destroyed. Interestingly, though, none of the religious statues or their First Holy Communion dresses for 2 of the girls were damaged in any way! The damage is so great (even the appliances that were left behind were destroyed) that this family is living in a hotel. They do have insurance, however, their need is immediate as they were robbed of thousands of dollars. They have to pay cash for everything as their identities are stolen.
This family is a great supporter of the Right to Life issues and this family is the daughter of Summit County Right to Life's president, Don Opphile. The Swiger family have a 1 year old son, and the other 5 children are all girls, the oldest is 12. They have tried to shield their children from the horror of this and would appreciate respect in this area. They do not want their children’s names in the public, however, any school books K – 6 could be donated to give the children something to do. The house will take at least 3 weeks to become livable, so they cannot take any large item donations. What they need the most is Cash, Gas Cards, or Gift Certificates for food or Target or Walmart. Their story will most likely make the local news channels. Their only hope is that someone will brag about the vandalism and therefore someone will turn them in- especially if they realize the extent of the damage they have done to this family’s life.

I truly hope that we can gather together and be a tremendous Christian witness to this family during this terrible time. May our Lord bring them closer to Jesus through all of this tragedy. Please contact Laura Frank with any question or donations ASAP. Thank you for your prayerful consideration. My number is 330-837-8002 or my e-mail is laurafrank@sssnet.com.

A Prayer of Thanksgiving...

A prayer of thanksgiving to Almighty God for all His works are wonderful... My husband Michael is home from the hospital as of this past Monday, after spending three days there, and is feeling better than ever! After receiving four units of blood and receiving treatment for the ulcers that were causing his internal bleeding, he and I are most grateful to God and to Our Blessed Mother for all help received ~ many prayers answered... Sometimes we put off what we know we need to do so as not to cause worry to those we love; Mike is famous for doing this. However, God, in His mercy, has seen to it that the problems were taken care of in time! :) Thank-You, Lord, for Your kindness to my family! Thank-You, o Mary, for Your loving Motherhood! Thank-you, to all the Angels and Saints who prayed for my husband! And thank-you to all of my Sisters in Christ who did likewise! God bless us, everyone! ~ Amen.
