Updates on our friends - sorry to be so late!

Our friends: Bob, who had a brain tumor, and Brian, who had major neck surgery are both responding well to therapy. We have no idea how much they'll recover, but they're both able to walk, with assistance, and can care for themselves to a degree.
God has blessed them!

Tragedy in Haiti

The tragedy unfolding this past week in Haiti is so huge I think it's nearly impossible for any of us to really grasp the horror of it all.

My brother has been living and working in Haiti for the past couple of years. He was in his house - having gotten off work early - when the quake hit. Things started flying off shelves, his china cabinet crashed to the ground. He didn't know what was happening, but he got out of the house. When the world stopped shaking he went back in and grabbed shoes and long pants (he'd been relaxing in shorts and sandals). Three of the houses near his had collapsed. His still stood - but he's unsure how stable it is and has not gone back into it since.

The house next to his had gone down the cliff. A house two houses away had collapsed. Co-workers of his lived there. For the next six hours he helped dig them out of the house. Five of the six people living there got out alive.

He then made his way to the U.S. Embassy where he's been basically living in his office for the past week. He's gotten very little sleep as he has helped with rescues and dealt with administrative issues. In his words it is a nightmare, horrendous and something that has changed his outlook on life and on people forever.

My brother is one of the lucky ones. He is alive. His family was not living in Haiti - so they are safe. He has a roof over his head - even if it is only his office - and food provided by the military to eat. And although he may never be able to recover the possessions in his house, it is not all he owns.

Where is God in all this?

That is the natural question. How can a loving God permit this kind of tragedy?

I don't know why God permits tragedy, except that I believe God created this earth and all that is in it and watches over it, but does not micromanage it. He does not form each cloud and rainstorm at a whim. Things happen because of the natural law of the place God created.

Why doesn't he stop these tragedies? If God is all powerful, he could.

Better minds then mine have grappled with these questions and I don't think anyone has ever come up with a definitive answer.

But what I do see is the goodness of people shining through. People all over the world are donating their time, money and talents to help those who are suffering.

The world got a little smaller last week, when we realized that those in Haiti are the neighbors of everyone in this global community. And people stepped in to help their neighbors.

And there have been little miracles. Today I saw a story that a fifteen-day-old baby was pulled, alive, from the rubble of her house. Fifteen days old. She was eight days old when the earthquake struck. She has spent nearly half her life trapped in rubble. But she is alive. And her mother is alive. And they are together again.

So we praise God for the miracles, he thank him for allowing us to see the goodness in others amidst this horror and we pray, not only for the souls of those who died, but for the living, that they may find peace, that things will get better.

We pray. Because it is the least we can do.

Pray for Addison

Seven weeks ago I had a daughter. Her name is Addison Smith. She is my first baby. Unfortunately, she has spent much of her young life in the hospital fighting various infections. It is due to these hospital visits that I thought to post today. While at the hospital with my daughter, I received some very upsetting information about terrible things that "might" be wrong with my daughter, but was told I would just have to "wait and see." Of course, I was not just going to sit around and wait and since that time I have been praying tirelessly that the Lord would take away from my daughter any physical or neurological damage, illness, detriment, disease or dysfunction. Of all the prayers I have made in my life I have never prayed harder for anything. At times, I have doubts and find it hard to have the faith that I feel is required for the Lord to intercede on my daughter's behalf, but I never stop praying. I am writing now to ask you to pray for Addison as well. Please pray that she will be healed and that there will be no long term neurological or physical effects for Addison in the future. I know that through faith and prayer this is possible.

I am amazed that I stumbled on this website. I do believe in P.U.S.H.(PRAY UNTIL SOMETHING HAPPENS) I am 25, and I went through health issues with a cancerous tumor this year. And I am grateful to say God healed me. I give all the glory to him. I prayed and fasted like I have never done.

Today I am going through a tough time in my life. I have been talking to this man for a while, whom I believe is a good man of God, and we have been heading in the path of relationship(thats how I saw and understood his actions). Now, is seems he's scared of committment. We had a big argument 6 weeks ago, and since then things haven't been the same. There's just been tension. I had a feeling he would be the one for me. And I don't know if I am losing hope/faith in what I though would have turned into marriage and lasted forever, or he's just not the one.

Please pray for me, as I don't know what to pray for at times. Should I pray for him(as in our relationship), or should I move on. I have been crying because I don't know what to do as I really like this man.

I read stories of marriages healed, and I am hopeful. But I don't know what I should be hopeful for apart from I know and believe in my heart that God will work it all out. Please pray for me. Please pray for peace for me, please pray for me to hear God when he talks to me. Please pray for the right man to come into my life. Please pray for the right man to be a man of God, who would love me like the love in 1st Corinthians 13, and for him not to be scared. for I know the Bible says true love casts out fear. Please pray for me... I really need your prayers. Maybe this man is the man for me, and if/when he comes back, please pray for my heart to be soften and be able to take him with all his flaws, and even though I am very hurt right now, let me be healed from his hurt. Please pray for me. Thanks.

Pray for Renewed Love Between Sisters

Hi! Please help pray that the Lord will grant reconciliation between me and my younger sister. We had a misunderstanding and despite my attempts of trying to reconcile with her (though it isn't really my fault), she's still acting cold towards me and her actions and facial expressions show that she's not happy to have me around. I don't know what else to do. I've done everything I could, even swallowing my pride, to bring peace between the 2 of us but she isn't responding well. My sister means a lot to me and I hate to see my mom sad that we aren't getting along well. It pains me too that she doesn't seem to respect me as her older sister and that she just let a small misunderstanding ruin our relationship. Prayers for my sister

Please keep my sister in your prayers. She just received news that her breast mammogram and ultrasound look very suspicious for a malignancy that may have even already spread. We just lived through the cancer death of my mother and so this new news is a little hard to take.

Bad News about one friend, good about another

Brian has been in hospital for 2 months after neck surgery..looks like they either didn't do a great job on his neck surgery...or PT was too soon. He's back at square one, needing 2 neck surgeries, one from the front and one from the back - withing days of each other. We're all sick about it.
Please pray that he'll have peace and feel the Lord's strength with him.

Bob is now in the Step-down unit from ICU! He'd love for the traech to be out so he can talk and eat normally. We're so very thankful for his apparent progress.

We have one friend, Brian, recovering from neck surgery and complications. He can't walk on his own yet, though is doing well in rehab.
A friend, Bob, is in a coma after brain surgery - prayers for his family too, please.
A friend's sister, JoAnn, has multiple cancers.

Heard from Bob's wife...he's responding to family, opening his eyes, etc. Tests look good, tumor is all out. But he has a temp and low BP. We also need to know for sure that he has no impairment from the surgery.
